The thing that impressed us about our clients when we first met them was their passion and conviction that they could improve the lives of millions of smokers and release them from dependency on tobacco.

One was a recovered smoker who had personal experience with vaping and the custom “mod” vaping devices that were outperforming e-cigarrettes.  He had become one of the leading experts on vaping and knew just about everyone in the industry.

They came to M Industrial Design with a vision to create a closed-system device with disposable containers of e-liquid that could deliver a high quality experience to a first-time user with no knowledge of vaping.

There were several major technical challenges standing in the way of a successful design solution, but the most daunting was to design a disposable container that would be leak-proof at retail and then when snapped into the device would have an open air channel and a path for the liquid to wet the wick.

The disposable container was designed to include the wick and heating coil required to produce the vapor.  The coil was designed to establish electrical connection with the power unit when snapped in place.  The liquid was put in contact with the wick by means of a clever elastomer valve that was opened when the container was snapped into position.

Power control circuitry was designed utilizing LiPo batteries and an induction charging system to give long-lasting performance.

M Industrial Design built fully functional appearance prototypes of both the eLiquid containers and the power unit.  These prototypes were tested and evaluated and then shown to potential retailers and investors.  These functional prototypes generated the first retail agreements and additional financial investment to fund full production.

An entry level version of the system featuring USB direct battery charging and eliminating the digital display was designed to establish a price point appropriate for retailing through convenience stores.
